On Sacred Self-Care

The temperatures are dropping. Daylight is waning. The trees are pulling minerals from their leaves, sending them down to the root cellar. The squirrels are gathering acorns. The night sky is ever clear.

Outer nature reminds us of inner nature.

The ancients understood that longevity, wellness and fulfillment are the fruits of honoring Nature’s cycles. Each season has a unique Rx on how to ‘nourish life’. Disharmony and dis-ease arise when we live counter to Nature’s way.

We must shift as nature shifts.

As it grows cold and dark outside we must nourish ourselves accordingly. From a Chinese Dietary perspective, we must ‘warm the interior’ during the cold months. We can do this by eating hearty soups, stews, bone broths and veggie tea. Think of eating mineral rich foods like collards, kale, chard, spinach, seaweeds, stinging nettles and more! We can call upon warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, clove, black pepper and cardamon to stimulate circulation (qi and blood).
